How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Drop the photos from your camera roll, or choose them. iPhone files usually end in .heic.
  2. Leave quality at 92% for a file that still looks like the original. Lower it if you need a smaller JPG.
  3. Download each photo, or download the batch as one zip when more than one succeeds.

Why iPhone photos are HEIC

The iPhone camera saves HEIC because it stores the same picture in less space than JPG. Windows, many email programs, and a lot of upload forms still ask for JPG. Converting makes a second file. It does not change the photo still on your phone.

Good to know

  • Photos are handled one at a time so the tab stays responsive. Up to 30 photos, 40 MB each.
  • If a browser already turned the file into a JPG before it reached this page, PicKept still saves a JPG. That happens on some phones.
  • A failed photo usually means the file is not HEIC, or it uses a HEIC feature this browser cannot read. Try another browser, or export a JPG from the phone’s Photos app.

Questions

Are the photos uploaded?
No. PicKept does not receive the file. Closing the tab clears it. The HEIC decoder, when this browser needs one, is loaded from this site.
Will the JPG look the same?
At 92% it stays very close. Quality cannot add detail the photo did not have. Use Compress when a form gives you a size limit.
Should I use PNG instead?
Use HEIC to PNG when you want a file that will not be compressed again. PNG is usually larger. Use JPG for email and forms.
